The Primrose

In early March we went out to look at the primrose in our school.  We looked at the leaves and the buds. Only a few of the buds had bloomed.  We took some photos and went back to the class.

Floating and Sinking
The children in Junior and Senior Infants tested an array of objects to see if they would float and sink. They predicted each time before the object was placed into the water and I made it a competition to create excitement among the kids. They really enjoyed testing the objects and worked very well in teams in terms of following instructions and recording their answers. From testing different types of materials the children found that wood and plastic were great materials for designing a boat as these would float however paper would be a disaster as it would sink and disintegrate

Measuring Temperature

The Junior and Senior Infants were very busy this week being weather forecasters. Each day for a week they predicted and recorded the weather on a chart. They also analysed the temperature and made their temperature gauge by using a bottle, a straw and  plasticine. This was a great experiment and the children were very excited to see the colored water move up the straw when the temperature increased. This is definitely an experiment we will do again when exploring the different types of weather and also the change in temperature as we move from season to season
